Nooooooooooooooo!

Today's blogorium entry is brought to you by the best spam subject line yet:

For some reason, this reminds me of Cranpire.

Getting back to my cries of "Nooooooooooooooo!", the remake train has gone way off the tracks, as now some company called Spitfire Pictures is remaking
Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires. If this sounds vaguely familiar, that's because it's going to be playing during Summerfest in July.

It's not simply that this is such a random film to remake, or even that there isn't some kind of market for kung-fu / horror mashups; my concern is that
Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires was a product of a unique pairing of studios, Hammer and Shaw Brothers. At the time, both were tops in their respective genres and Vampires, while goofy, is exactly what you'd expect from a Shaw / Hammer co-production: chop sockey and Peter Cushing.

The film even features the following quote: "In Europe, the vampire fears the cross. Here, it will be the image of the Lord Buddha."

Or something like that. Strangely, I can't find the quote online, but I have an audio file of it somewhere. Sure, Christopher Lee doesn't play Dracula, but otherwise it's gangbusters. Or cheese-tacular. I don't see a good future for this remake, to be honest with you.
